Old Trafford Cricket Ground otherwise known as Emirates Old Trafford is located in the Trafford area of Manchester. It has been the home of Lancashire County Cricket Club since it was formed in 1864, having been the ground of Manchester Cricket Club from 1857.
Not to be confused with the neighbouring Old Trafford Football Ground home of Manchester United. Old Trafford Cricket Ground is a 10 minute walk from the football stadium.
Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground was the venue to host the first ever Ashes test in the UK in 1884. Renovation work carried out in 2009 brought the ground up to the standard to protect its reputation as a venue fit for international matches.
Part of this refurbishment and expansion programme included the £12million pound development of new building The Point. This impressive modern structure houses a conference centre with a 1000 delegate capacity.
Recent years have seen the venue have hosted a variety of big name stars, establishing it as a popular concert venue in the city. As far back as 2002 the likes of David Bowie, New Order, Green Day and Oasis played at the ground. More recently,2016 saw the likes of Beyoncé and Rhianna play to sell-out crowds, following the success of the capacity filling Foo Fighters concert in 2015. Currently the maximum capacity for an outdoor concert is a whopping 50,000 whereas for a cricket match, 25,000 spectators can be easily accommodated.
Another purpose of Old Trafford Cricket Ground it the annual firework display on Bonfire night. Popular with local residents and visitors alike.
Emirates Old Trafford is easily accessible via Metrolink tram. The closest Metrolink stop is Old Trafford and the metrolink stop is directly opposite an entrance gate. There is a metrolink tram stop at Manchester Airport, located just across the road from the hotel. We offer complimentary shuttle transfers to and from the station for all guests at any time of day. To reach Emirates Old Trafford from the airport by tram, simply purchase a ticket at the station and take the journey to Cornbrook and change here to the Altringham line for just two stops to Old Trafford.
Clayton Hotel Manchester Airport is just 8 miles from Old Trafford Cricket Ground, so approximately a 20 minute drive away. A taxi typically costs between £26 – £32. The venue is just off the motorway junction and has ample parking. Parking is free to until 30 minutes with charges from £2.00 for an hour ranging up to £5.00 for 12hours.
