The National Cycling Centre opened in 1994 and has since become one of the busiest velodrome’s in the world for the exciting sport of cycling. Following the recent Olympic success in Rio, the centre’s popularity has rocketed, inviting a wide range of enthusiasts from beginners all the way to medal winning athletes such as Sir Chris Hoy and Vicky Pendleton MBE.
The velodrome offers a large variety of sessions to ensure the centre accommodates for everyone interested. From beginners who want to experience the thrill for the first time in one of the taster sessions, to regular riders who partake in two hour accredited rider sessions. No matter how experienced an individual may be there is something for everybody to enjoy here, including the spectators.
If cycling isn’t your thing they also offer BMX indoor and outdoor tracks for new to world class riders to take full advantage of. Opened in August 2011, the track is of international standard.
But if you really don’t like being on two wheels there are plenty of other options in which you can partake in at The National Cycling Centre. On offer is indoor basketball, netball and badminton courts, as well as a futsal pitch and watt bikes which can be booked in for sessions, with or without a coach.
The track is open seven days a week and is constantly in use, with events being held throughout the year. Visitors are always guaranteed a fun filled day at the velodrome. Join one of the tours and see what they have to offer, or stop off at the Velopark cafe and enjoy watching some of the outdoor activities during the summer.
